Who can receive the Freeview Digital Service?
All New Zealanders can get Freeview Digital TV. Once you have purchased a Free to Air or Freeview Set Top Box and, if you need one, installed a satellite dish, you can watch and listen to Freeview's channels for free on any TV.
What channels are available on Freeview?
The Freeview Digital Service includes the following channels: TV One, TV2, TV3, C4, Maori Television, Radio New Zealand National and Radio New Zealand Concert. Later, more channels will be added, including a family channel, News and Factual channel, and specific special interest channels. The free to air Freeview channels can be accessed with any Freeview or Free to Air Set top Box available from Freeviewshop.
I have an existing Satellite Dish, can I receive Freeview?
Anyone with an existing dish that is aligned to the Optus D1 Satellite can simply plug in a set top box to receive the new Freeview service. You do not need to align the dish.
How do I align a new satellite dish?
For those who need a dish, dish alignment is easy. All the set top boxes available on Freeviewshop have a satellite strength and quality display. Alternatively, a satellite strength meter can be purchased. The compass reading for dish setting is approx. 315 degrees on a simple compass (slightly, West of North). Or you can purchase an installation package and have it done for you.
Can I have Freeview as well as Sky?
There is currently a technical issue with connection of both a Freeview set top box and a Sky set top box to the same dish. This is due to Sky being Vertically Polarised while Freeview is Horizontally Polarised. This means that a Sky receiver and a Freeview receiver will not work at the same time from one dish. SKY is switching to Horizontal polarity in the near future, which will then allow both the Freeview receiver and the Sky receiver to operate at the same time. The interim solution is to either purchase an additional dish or dual output LNB.
