Have you ever thought of taking an angling trip to Canada? Fishing in the great North can be exciting and rewarding in ways you’ve never expected. Canada is home to a wide variety of sport fish species, including salmon, bass, trout, pike, and walleye. Because Canada’s fish populations are less frequently harvested than many populations in the United States, your chances of landing a record-sized fish are greatly increased. From relaxed summer sport fishing to ice fishing, companies throughout Canada are ready to take you on a guided fishing trip. Experienced fishing guides can be hired who know all the best spots. These sport companies can also provide all the best, up to date gear, and have extensive information about local lakes, rivers, and streams. If you’re a stranger to Canada, you won’t know the area or the habits of the fish, but your guides can tell you just where to start. Going it alone is a lot of fun but when you go on a chartered trip you also get the local knowledge of where the fish are actually biting and the supply all the gear and bait necessary. They will also clean the fish you catch. You can also find a lot of different types of sleeping accommodations. You can rent lakeside cabins, stay at a resort, or just go RVing. You can get walleye, north pike, small mouth bass, and lake trout. All are great eating fish. But, before you go you will need to know that there are licenses and regulations in effect for all Canada fishing. There are two types of licenses, a sport fishing license and a conservation fishing license. The difference between the two is in price and how many fish you may actually catch and take home. The sport fishing license for non-residents is $59 for a seasonal license and $39 for an eight-day pass. This license will allow you to keep literally twice as many fish as the conservation license. For instance, you can keep four walleye with the sporting license where as you may only keep two with the conservation license. The conservation license for a non-resident is $36 for a seasonal license and $22.00 for an eight-day pass. Besides being allowed fewer fish with this license it also has an additional requirement. You are not permitted to keep the fish alive. Once you catch them you must immediately kill them. Along with restrictions on how many fish you can have in your possession there are length requirements for each fish. For example, you may be allowed to have four northern pike but you may have only one that is longer that 35" and the rest must be between 27.5" and 35". You are also allowed to catch muskellunge for the sport but you must immediately release them. Each species has different requirements. So before you go do the Canada fishing vacation, first make sure you have a passport. Second, decide exactly what types of accommodation you are going to need. And last, make sure you know the requirements for each type of fish you plan on trying to reel in.
